Why We Chose Casement Windows for Our Tennessee Home Build

When we started our new home project here in Tennessee, one of the biggest decisions we had to make was which windows to choose. It’s funny how something as simple as a window can completely change the look, feel, and long-term quality of your home, but the more we researched, the more we realized how big of a deal this choice actually was. After comparing brands, styles, and costs, we ultimately decided on casement windows from Windsor, and honestly, we’re so glad we did.

Below is a breakdown of why we chose them, what style decisions made the most sense for us, and how we saved money without sacrificing aesthetics.

Why Casement Windows Made the Most Sense

1. A Cleaner, More Modern Look

Casement windows immediately won us over because of their clean, simple lines. Compared to a traditional double-hung window, casements don’t have the rail in the middle, so the sightlines are sleeker, the view is clearer, and the overall look is more modern. For the style of home we’re building, that subtle difference made a huge impact especially since the view is the very important to us in this build.

2. Better Functionality & Easier Operation

Casements open outward with a crank or lever, which actually makes them much easier to operate, especially in places like over the kitchen sink. They also let in more ventilation because the entire sash can open, unlike double-hung windows where only half the window opens.

3. Improved Energy Efficiency

Casement windows are known for being more energy-efficient because the sash seals tightly against the frame when closed. In Tennessee, with our hot summers and chilly winters, better insulation equals lower energy bills. That alone made them a strong contender.

4. Better Natural Light

Casement windows allow for a larger sheet of uninterrupted glass, which means more natural light flows into the space. With the way our floor plan is designed, this truly makes sense.

Why We Chose Windsor Windows Over Other Brands

We looked at several window companies, but Windsor just made the most sense for our home and our budget. A few things stood out right away:

More Bang for Our Buck

Windsor offered the most value overall. The quality was there, but without the inflated price tag we were seeing from other brands. For the size and number of windows we needed, this mattered.

Solid Construction & Better Feel

When we compared them in person, the Windsors looked and felt more solid. The frames felt sturdier, the movement of the sash was smoother, and the overall build quality just gave us more confidence.

More Exterior Colors Without the Upcharge

Another huge selling point: exterior color options. Some brands charged steep upcharges for anything outside of basic white, but Windsor included more colors at no additional cost.

We ended up going with bronze on the exterior and black on the interior, which gives us a sleek look that mimics steel windows without blowing the budget. To take that look even further, we’re planning on painting the interior trim right up to the edge of the window so the black frames look even more seamless.

Where We Used Fixed Windows (and Why)

Not every window in the house needed to open, so choosing strategic areas for fixed windows helped us save money while keeping the look clean and intentional.

We used fixed windows in:

  • The office
  • The downstairs dining area

These are spaces where we knew we’d never open a window, so it didn’t make sense to pay for a functional casement. Plus, we really love the look of a fixed window without the crank hardware. It feels minimal and polished.

A Few More Reasons Casement Windows Were the Right Choice

Beyond the basics, here are a few extra reasons we ultimately went with casement windows for our home:

• Better Airflow Direction

When open, the sash can actually catch breezes and direct fresh air into the room, which is great when the weather is nice.

• Increased Security

Casements are harder to break into because the lock is embedded in the frame, not just on the sash. A tighter seal = a safer home.

• Less Maintenance

No tracks where dust and pollen collect, like with sliders or double-hung windows. Just a simple hinge and crank.

Final Thoughts

Choosing windows wasn’t something we expected to spend so much time researching, but we’re glad we did. Casement windows gave us the modern look we wanted, the energy efficiency we needed, and the function that works best for our lifestyle. And choosing Windsor ended up being the perfect combination of quality, style options, and overall value for our Tennessee home.

If you’re building or renovating and trying to decide between window types or brands, casement windows, especially from Windsor are definitely worth considering.
