Swing
If you have a covered porch, the very first thing that every porch needs is a swing. I do realize not every porch is big enough or is equipped to have a swing, but if possible it should be one of the first additions. A swing gives a porch area a cozy feel no matter what style you are going for. It not only creates a great vibe but also provides additional seating.
There are different swing designs to choose from for every home decor style. There are also all different sizes of swings including bed swings and even smaller swings that don’t even hang such as an egg swing. No matter what style or look, a swing will allow you to relax for hours and enjoy your porch so much more.

Rug
Another item to include in your porch decor is a rug. A rug is what gives a porch space the homey feel of making it an extension of your interior. It also adds texture, color, and some personality to the space.
There are also many styles, sizes, and colors to choose from for an outdoor rug. Choosing the perfect rug for your outdoor space will anchor the area and give it just the touch it needs.
Potted Plants
Potted plants are a great way to add life to your porch. Adding greenery in a decorative pot can also give some height and dimension to the area. It’s amazing how adding a few plants can bring a space to life!
Some people don’t realize how well some plants can thrive in a pot. We have had some plants in pots that have continued thriving for several years and matured so beautifully.
Pillows
One of my favorite additions to an outside porch area is pillows. I’m a huge fan of pillows when it comes to styling a space. They are a great way to add some color, texture, and even personality to your space. And of course, do I have to mention how cozy and comfortable they make a chair, couch, or even swing?
Pillows are also a great way to change up your porch decor throughout the year. For example, I have pillows for each of the four seasons. I store the pillows that aren’t being used in one of our closets.
Furniture
Every porch needs some cool and comfy furniture. If you can’t have a porch swing, at least invest in some quality furniture that will make your porch a place you can relax and enjoy. A cozy sectional, loveseat, or a couple of oversized chairs are a great addition to a porch area.

I also like adding other pieces of accent furniture such as coffee tables and side tables. These are great for holding food, drinks, and even books. They also help fill the space and make it feel more like an extension of your home!
