I have a feeling that up until the moment we pull the trigger on the paint sprayer, we’ll still be looking for painted brick inspiration. Even though it seems simple enough, there are so many things to consider.
The most obvious is what color to choose. We’ve done our research on exterior white paint colors, but we still haven’t decided on a final color. To do this, we have to also decide what color we’ll use on the siding parts of the exterior.
And then there is the decision of how messy or sloppy we want the brick-and-mortar work to be. This might sound crazy to some, but I think that painted brick looks so much better this way. It gives the brick more of an old-world look. Whereas you don’t get that as much by painting brick with perfect mortar work.
In this article, I’m sharing some of my latest painted brick exterior finds, and what I like about each.
Painted Brick and Wood Siding
This house looks like it is straight out of a fairy tale. The wood siding on the back portion of the house creates a beautiful contrast with the painted brick and the tone of the wood ties in beautifully with the copper accents and color of the windows. Everything about this house works so well!
As I’ve probably mentioned before, I’m also a big fan of no overhangs. I think this is another way to make a house look old – in a good way. 🙂
Unexpected Color
When you think painted brick, white probably comes to mind, or at least some shade of white. This house takes a departure from the norm with its gray-painted brick exterior. I also love the extra messy mortar finish on the brick, which adds a lot of texture.
I also like the mixture of window grille patterns. The grille pattern on the bottom windows gives the house a little bit of a transitional vibe.
Fairytale Cottage
This is another cottage that looks as if it was plucked from a fairy tale and placed on a residential lot. The steeply pitched roof and the chimney placed at the front of the house give it an abundance of curb appeal.
I also love the color of the siding. It pairs nicely with the brick which is painted with Sherwin Williams Natural Choice.
French Country Cottage
The exterior of this house has a lot of the things we are looking for black windows, white painted brick, and copper gutters. If we don’t change our minds, this is the direction we are going.
I also really like the unpainted brick headers above the windows and the wood elements of the doors and posts.
Light and Dark Transitional
Painted brick can look amazing on modern or transitional homes as well! For a modern house like this one, it’s important to keep things super clean looking. Painted brick does the trick here while adding some texture.
At one point, we were thinking about doing a combination of white painted brick and dark siding like this home, but we’re not completely sold that it would work on our new house.
Choosing exterior finishes is so difficult. After all, it’s the part of your house that will be seen the most. In all seriousness, hopefully, we will have our minds made up in the next couple of weeks.
