Working with an Architect and Progress on the House Plan

Brooke has been busy finding vaulted ceiling inspiration like the image above. It’s images like that one that really got her thinking we needed to go vaulted with our great room and kitchen in the new house. We started off searching on line for a stock plan, but we quickly realized that it was going to be impossible to find a plan that had vaulted ceilings and everything else we were looking for. So at that point, we started the search for an architect. This was going to be a completely new process for us since on our other houses we had always used a stock plan and modified it to fit our needs.

    Painted Brick: Exterior and Interior

Painted brick is always a controversial topic. Some people love it, and others think it is a sin to paint over brick no matter how ugly or dated the brick looks. Thoughts on the matter may vary in different parts of the country, but in our area it is a touchy subject. However, Henry and I both love the look of painted brick and are planning on using it on the exterior, and also in a few places on the interior of the new house.

Vaulted Ceilings in the Kitchen: Pros and Cons

Vaulted ceilings in a kitchen can make a huge statement when it comes to the interior design of a home. This is why we’re thinking very hard about including this feature in our new house. I would like the vaulted ceiling to run all the way through from the great room into the kitchen. Henry is on board for it in the great room, but not not so much in the kitchen. To help us come to a decision, we thought it would be a good idea to lay out some pros and cons.
