We have been on the search for the best light gray paint color for the shutters on the house we are renovating. We love the look of light gray against white painted brick and siding. There’s just something about the subtle contrast that looks so clean and crisp. We ended up choosing Farrow and Ball Cornforth White, but I have to say it was a hard choice. There are so many beautiful light gray paint colors out there! Out of all the ones that we came across in our research, here are our favorites.

We are always asked the question, “Can you refinish engineered hardwood floors?”. The simple answer is yes, but there are some things you should know before you do it. Which is the better choice when planting a new lawn – sod or seed? It can be a tough decision for some and a more obvious one for others. We’ve done both recently. We laid sod around our pool area because we wanted that space to be finished so we could enjoy it this summer. And we sewed grass seed on our side yard where we had to build up our yard to bring the pool in. Since this part of the yard was far from the pool, we were willing to wait for the grass to come up. To figure out what’s best for your situation, you need to look at the pros and cons of sod vs. seed.

We decided to go with ceramic tile for our pool decking because we felt like it would be easier as a DIY. We’ve laid plenty of tile in the past and felt confident that we could get the job done and be happy with the end result. Of course, using tile meant that we would first need a slab of concrete poured to lay the tile on. This added some extra expense, but we offset that plus some by installing the tile ourselves.

We’ve finally completed our backyard pool area! Well, almost. We’re still waiting for the automatic cover to be installed, but that hasn’t stopped us from already enjoying our pool during these hot summer days.
Going into this project, we knew that it was going to be a big undertaking. We didn’t have much of a backyard, and what little bit we had was on a pretty steep slope. So we had to bring in a lot of shale to build it up and level it out. Even though it took a lot to get here, we are so happy with the way it turned out. And we think that creating this usable space has added value to our home.
