Our Living Room Reveal

We are so excited to be settling into our new home. It has certainly been a fun adventure planning each room over the past year and it’s so exciting to finally see all of our visions come to life. We took a lot of time planning each room of our home, area by area, inch by inch. We truly tried to plan out every detail, even down to the furniture.

The process started way back over a year ago after we finalized a house plan. We took each room and planned the design and finishes before we even broke ground. Although, we did make a few tweaks here and there along the way.

One area that was very important was our living room. We knew this would be a room we would spend lots of time in. It would not only be a place for our family to gather and enjoy but also for the guests to enjoy. There were many things we knew we wanted to include within this room. Our focus and vision for this room was a modern, yet cozy space that the whole family could enjoy.

Living Room Finishes

During the building process, we wrote an article all about the planning of our living room finishes. Some of the elements we knew we wanted to include were a concrete fireplace, wood beams, interior black windows, and built-ins. These were all finishes that would be completed during the building process.

They were all key components in giving the living room the look and feel we wanted. Then we switched our focus to what furniture we would add to the room once we moved in.

Living Room Furniture and Decor

Along the way, I asked our followers what was important to them when looking for living room furniture. I received so many great answers that I totally agree with. Quality, comfort, and style were all at the top of this list.

Several months ago, we came across a company whose products exhibit all of these qualities. Maiden Home produces great quality, handcrafted furniture made in the United States. Exactly what we wanted for our furniture that would top off our overall living room design.

The first decision we made was what pieces we wanted to use in our living room. Our living room is around 21’x22′ which is a pretty large room. Considering the size of the room, we knew we needed several pieces to fill the space. Not to mention, we wanted to make sure and have plenty of seating for guests. We ended up going with two sofas, 90 inches long each, and two chairs.

We chose a modern style for both sofas and chairs. For the two sofas, we went with The Crosby which has a very clean look while maintaining that cozy feel. We decided to go with the Merino Dusk heathered wool fabric. This fabric is very beautiful, cozy, easy to maintain, and durable. As mentioned above, both sofas are 90 inches long, giving us lots of room to stretch out or accommodate several guests. For the design layout, we wanted the two sofas to fill the area and face each other, adding to the symmetry of the room.

For additional seating, we decided to add two leather Mercer chairs in camel color leather. The soft Italian, handcrafted leather gives a luxurious feel to the area. The design of the Mercer chairs ties in nicely with the other modern elements in the space.

To tie in with the Mercer chairs, we went with an all-black custom-made metal coffee table. All the other decor in the room was just icing on the cake. We love adding some fresh greenery in a big vase with some coffee table books. This creates that homey feel that makes everyone want to stay awhile. We also added some shelf decor and neutral curtains to further soften the room.

I just stumbled upon your blog recently! I’m loving it! One question… where is your TV? Or do you have separate room that has a TV?

Love it all, but especially the fireplace! What is your ceiling height? I really want that fireplace in our new home, BUT I’m concerned with it looking “dinky” if we have 12 ft ceiling height. Yours looks perfect. Thanks
