Creative Pantry Shelving Ideas

Having an organized pantry can make a huge difference in how efficiently you use your kitchen space. However, it’s often difficult to find the right shelving solution for your particular pantry size and shape. Fortunately, there are plenty of creative pantry shelving ideas out there that can help you maximize your storage space in style. Let’s explore some of them!

Why Should I Add Shelves to My Pantry?

When designing a kitchen pantry, many people only think about what cabinets they will add to the pantry. The pantry cabinets are normally an extended design from the main kitchen cabinets. However, many do not think about the actual purpose the pantry will serve. It is important to make sure you have an ample amount of shelves because shelving is where you will store most of your pantry items. Shelving is important because it will help you tuck away everything in a neat and orderly fashion.

Floating or Open Shelves

My favorite pantry shelving idea is to add floating shelves to your pantry. Floating shelves can be done in a variety of different ways. And there are plenty of options when it comes to shelving materials. We decided to run our floating shelf across the entirety of our pantry. We used stained wood for this shelf to add some warmth and contrast with our painted cabinets.

This floating shelf is not only functional but very aesthetically pleasing. I use the shelf to house bowls, plates, and coffee mugs, considering our espresso machine is in our pantry. I also use this shelf to store food in clear glass containers such as pasta and rice.

There are many great features about floating shelves and adding them to your pantry, but one of the biggest positives is how affordable they are. Henry and I DIY’d our pantry floating shelves and created a step-by-step tutorial on how to build this type of shelf.

The only downside to floating or open shelving is that you have to keep things organized if you want them to be visually appealing. But this isn’t all bad. It gives you a reason to be more organized!

Floor to Ceiling Shelving

If you are a very organized person, you might want to consider floor-to-ceiling open shelving. This will allow you to maximize your space for storage. And if you do a good job of keeping the shelves nice and tidy ad adding in some styling, it can be a visual focal point in your pantry.

Pull Out Shelves

Pull-out shelves are another pantry shelving idea that I absolutely love! These pull-out shelves are housed and integrated within your cabinetry. A pull-out shelf looks like a regular cabinet on the exterior, but when opened, multiple drawers can roll out for storage. Depending on the size, these drawers can be used for items such as canned food or even pots and pans.

Door Shelving

Door shelves are also a popular addition to a pantry and make great hidden storage. Door shelves are located just where the name states, on the interior back of a cabinet door. These shelves are sometimes custom built-in with the cabinetry but can also be purchased. When you purchase a door shelf, you will need to attach them to the door yourself. This type of pantry shelving is narrow but great for spices and smaller items.

Ceiling Mounted Shelves

Ceiling-mounted shelves can also be used in a pantry design to utilize the area for more storage. Ceiling-mounted shelves are attached to ceiling joists using long adjustable metal brackets. Most of these are made from metal with glass, marble, or wood shelves. These shelves provide a pantry with lots of visual interest, and if incorporated into the pantry design tastefully, they can be a stunning feature.

Ceiling-mounted shelves can be used for storing plates, bowls, glasses, or even decorative items. This type of shelf offers lots of storage space and also allows you to showcase beautiful kitchen items.

With so many options for pantry shelving ideas, I’m sure you can come up with one or several that will work perfectly for your pantry. Adding shelves to your pantry will allow for tons more storage to make the pantry as functional as it can be. These shelving ideas incorporated into the design will also allow for a much more organized pantry that the entire family will love!
