Our colonial kitchen has been completely transformed, and we couldn’t be happier with how it all came together. We kept the existing layout for the most part, only making a few tweaks to the wall with the existing ovens and microwave. These changes improved the function, flow, and visual appearance of the kitchen.
Our goal was to maintain the charm and character of the home while updating it in a way that feels fresh and timeless. From the perfect paint colors and light fixtures to the hardware and countertops, every choice was made with both style and practicality in mind. In this post, we’re sharing all the details hoping to inspire your future home projects!
Cabinet Color
The cabinets in our kitchen are painted in Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige, and I have to say, this might be my favorite neutral ever. Accessible Beige is a soft, warm greige that shifts beautifully with the light—sometimes looking more beige, sometimes more gray. It’s neutral enough to feel timeless but has enough warmth to keep things inviting.
We paired Accessible Beige with Benjamin Moore Cloud White for the walls, ceiling, and trim. Cloud White is the perfect crisp-yet-soft white, and it complements Accessible Beige without competing with it. Together, they create a clean and cohesive palette that feels warm and approachable but still classic enough to honor the colonial architecture of our home.
Cabinet Hardware

We chose a mix of timeless brass hardware from Rejuvenation to elevate our cabinetry with a balanced blend of function and style. For our larger drawers and doors, we used the Massey Round Brass Cabinet Knobs, which add a classic yet substantial touch. We opted for the Brass Ansel Pulls for additional drawers to complement them, creating a cohesive look with their sleek, understated design. Our fridge panels feature the Ansel Appliance Pull, ensuring seamless integration with the surrounding cabinetry. For a more decorative and traditional accent, we incorporated the Small Oval Cupboard Latch in Brass, which adds charm and character to select cabinets while enhancing the overall warmth of our kitchen design.

Countertops and Full-Height Backsplash
I’ve always been drawn to kitchens with full-height backsplashes, and we knew from the beginning that we wanted the backsplash and countertops to match. We chose Davinci Quartz—a dreamy, subtle stone-look quartz with soft, marble-like veining. Knowing we wouldn’t be in this home forever, we felt like this was a good choice that was both beautiful and affordable.
The light tones of the Davinci Quartz tie in beautifully with the Accessible Beige cabinets and Cloud White accents, creating a layered, tonal look. Quartz is incredibly durable and low-maintenance, which is exactly what we need for a kitchen that sees a lot of action. From pancake breakfasts to late-night cleanups, this countertop can handle it all!
Plaster Range Hood
Henry DIYed a stunning plaster range hood that became the focal point of our kitchen, adding a custom, handcrafted touch that brings warmth and texture to the space. The organic finish of the plaster complements our other design elements, making the hood feel like a timeless architectural feature. To enhance functionality, we reworked our kitchen layout by relocating the wall ovens and replacing them with a pantry for better storage. This change allowed us to switch to a freestanding range, creating a more cohesive and open feel while maximizing both style and efficiency in our cooking space.
Lighting
Lighting is one of those elements that can completely change a space, and it’s also where we had the most fun making design decisions. Over the island, we chose the Collins Linear Chandelier from Pottery Barn. It’s a statement piece with its sleek, modern lines and warm brass finish, which adds just the right amount of contrast to all the soft neutrals in the kitchen.
Next to the plaster range hood, we installed two Palmer Metal Sconces (also from Pottery Barn), and they’re the perfect finishing touch. Their brass finish adds a little grounding to the space, while the clean lines and subtle curves feel traditional but not fussy. My favorite part is that the sconces provide the perfect ambient lighting for evenings when we’re winding down after dinner.
How It All Comes Together
This kitchen feels like us in every way. It’s warm, functional, and rooted in timeless design while still feeling fresh and updated. The Accessible Beige cabinets bring warmth without overwhelming the space, and the Cloud White walls and trim keep it light and bright. The Davinci Quartz countertops and backsplash add subtle texture and elegance, and the lighting choices tie it all together with style and charm.
