A few months ago, when Henry and I moved into our new house, I was determined to organize everything. My kids can tell you I was all about tossing out anything we didn’t need! While sorting through our laundry room, I stumbled upon a half-empty bottle of detergent from who-knows-when. And I had to wonder—does laundry detergent expire?
Turns out, it does! Most laundry detergents have a shelf life of about one to two years, depending on the type and how they’ve been stored. After that, they can lose their effectiveness, start to separate, or even develop a funky smell. If you’ve got a dusty bottle of detergent hanging out in the back of your cabinet, it might not be doing your clothes any favors.
