As much as Henry and I love building new homes, we love the character of older homes as well. It is sometimes hard to achieve the character and older look on a brand new home, but it can be accomplished. One way we are implementing this character is trying to give our exterior brick somewhat of an older look.

Whether brick or siding, we love the look of a painted exterior. Paint can completely change an outdated home or give a unique look to a new one. We have painted both new construction homes and remodels and it always adds so much curb appeal. Even though we struggled with deciding what to do on the exterior of the new build, we ultimately decided to go with our original plan of painting the brick.

As we’ve built and remodeled several homes, we have learned that trim and moldings play such a big role in completing the look of an interior. This is a very exciting part of building a house because at this point your vision is starting to come to life by seeing a more completed look. This phase can also be very overwhelming. There are so many choices and options for trimming the interior of a home. Here are a few things to consider when choosing the right molding for you home. Hopefully this will help make this process a little easier.

We are about six months into this build and I can already see that the budget has been broken! You would think we would learn considering this isn’t our first go around at building a home. But, it never fails. We go over budget every single time.

Henry and I have always self-contracted our builds and projects up to this point. We love being hands on and enjoy doing lots of the work ourselves. Throughout the past eighteen years of several builds and re-models, this is the first time we have hired a contractor.
